POLES

Tanwat has over 2000 ha under eucalypus trees for poles production.The main species are eucalyptus Grandis. At the age of 7-9 years trees are subjected to an economoical thinning whereby telegraphic and fencing poles are produced at the age of 10 years and above trees are selectively harvested or clear felled to produce transmission poles.

    STANDARDS

    Pole production is done under TBS (Tanzania Bureau of Standards) licence and regular inspections by TBS staff are done. All pressure gauges are calibrated annually and tests are carried out in each batch to verify the penetration of chemical, tensile strength of the poles and tolerance to storage conditions.

  • SPECIES AND TYPE OF POLES

    Species available for poles production are Eucalyptus Grandis, Eucalyptus Cloeziana,Eucalyptus Maidenii and Eucalyptus Saligna which comprise the hardwood group.

  • SAFETY ASPECTS

    All workers involved in the poles production operations i.e. felling, debranching, skidding, loading and transport, treatment and general handling (be company workers orcontractors) are provided with Personal Protective Equipments (PPE).
